Building connections across generations
One of the most powerful ways we connect with the wider world is through our school and preschool outreach programme. We work with local primary schools to allow pupils to visit the people we care for.
These visits are active, meaningful exchanges filled with conversation, creativity and curiosity. The conversations flow naturally, building empathy, vocabulary, and history for children while our residents rediscover confidence, joy, and purpose.
Improve cognitive health
Studies show spending time with children can improve memory, attention and mood in older adults, particularly those with early dementia. This helps slow cognitive decline.
Emotional development
Children who interact with elderly people demonstrate increased empathy, patience, and better communication skills, which helps them develop emotional intelligence at an earlier age.
Reducing loneliness
For elderly individuals, regular interaction with children reduces feelings of isolation and provides a renewed sense of purpose and joy, helping to battle loneliness.
Confidence, communication & connections
As young children develop their language skills, conversations with older adults can accelerate vocabulary, nurture emotional expression and spark curiosity; however, the benefits are not exclusive to the children.
Elderly residents, especially those struggling with memory loss, feel inspired to speak, teach, and listen. This shared communication is more than just chatter; it’s therapeutic and educational for everyone.
These seemingly simple interactions help bridge generations, reduce loneliness and foster important emotional and cognitive wellbeing on both sides.
Bringing joy with Omi
Our Omi interactive projector has allowed us to bring even more fun into the community. We are able to deliver sensory-rich experiences to the people in our care and children across a multitude of settings.
Omi fills the room with colour, music and movement, encouraging everyone to play and connect. This technology invites interaction for everyone, no matter their age.
We’ve been able to lend this out to help our care home community provide enriching activities for children of all ages.
Events to bring people together
Throughout the year, we host a wide range of events that celebrate our community spirit and togetherness. Our calendar offers something for everyone, from garden parties and seasonal fairs to music performances and themed afternoons.
Whether enjoying cream tea in the lounge or watching local children perform carols around the Christmas tree, these shared moments enhance wellbeing and ensure our residents remain at the heart of community life.
More than a cafe
More than just a place to get delicious coffee (although we have that, too), our cafe is a living part of our home. It welcomes families, locals, and even the parish council, which holds its regular meetings here.
With soft lighting, comfortable seating and bean-to-cup coffee, it’s become a place where conversations flow and friendships grow.
We’ve worked hard to create an environment that feels relaxed and inclusive. Whether catching up with family, greeting new neighbours or welcoming local groups, our cafe has become a true meeting place for minds and memories alike.
Designed for connection, built for comfort
Set within beautifully landscaped gardens, our home has been thoughtfully designed with community in mind. Wheelchair accessible patios, a sensory garden with raised planters, and sun-shaded areas offer tranquil places to meet and relax.
Every corner of our home is designed to feel welcoming, vibrant, and lived-in. We’re proud to provide care that reflects individual needs, always putting people first. We use the same philosophy to engage with our wider community.
Celebrating local wildlife
To celebrate the incredible wildlife in our local area, we proudly display art by a local photographer, taken of the incredible animals which call our community home.
It’s incredible how many creatures live within a 5-mile radius of Grosvenor House, and displaying these photographs makes us feel connected to the outside world. Prints are also on sale, allowing us to support a local artist and allow our families to take a piece of our community home with them.
